Job Description
A private household in Coquitlam is seeking a reliable and compassionate Personal Support Worker to provide home support and personal care to a convalescent senior male.
Responsibilities
Administer bedside and personal care.
Assist with dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting and other aspects of personal hygiene.
Assist with regular exercise, walking, transfers and routine mobility.
Provide personal care while maintaining the care recipient’s comfort, safety, privacy and dignity.
Launder clothing and household linens.
Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties.
Prepare and serve suitable and nutritious meals based on dietary needs, restrictions and preferences.
Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home.
Assist with mobility exercises and daily routines recommended by qualified healthcare professionals.
Follow care and safety instructions provided by the family and healthcare providers.
Communicate with family members, healthcare providers, hospitals, emergency services and community service providers when required.
Employment Requirements
Secondary school graduation certificate.
Minimum one year and less than two years of relevant caregiving, personal support or home support experience.
Valid First Aid Certificate.
Fluency in English and Mandarin is required. Mandarin is necessary because the care recipient communicates only in Mandarin. English is required for communication with healthcare providers, hospitals, emergency services and community service providers.
Must be physically capable of safely assisting with personal care, mobility and transfers.
Reliability, patience and respect for the care recipient’s privacy and dignity.
Youth Employment Support
Youth between 15 and 30 years of age are encouraged to apply. The employer will provide job-specific orientation, coaching and on-the-job training concerning the care recipient’s routines, mobility and transfer procedures, household safety, emergency procedures, meal preparation and communication with family members and healthcare providers.
Employment details: Permanent, full-time position; 35 hours per week. On-call and weekend work may be required. Expected start date: December 13, 2026. One vacancy available.
